My Quick Take: The 100 is an action-packed show with many unexpected twists. This is another show that I have watched more than once due to its compelling mix of drama, horror, and romance. The most captivating storyline for those in the lesbian and queer community is that between Clarke and Lexa, which is a building relationship of intensity and complexity.
Synopsis: Almost 100 years after a nuclear war destroyed nearly all life on Earth, approximately 2,400 survivors are living on twelve space stations in Earth’s orbit. With resources scarce and support systems failing, 100 juvenile prisoners are sent to Earth’s surface to determine if Earth is habitable again. When the teens arrive, they learn that they are not the only ones there and their presence is unwelcomed.
Representation: Lexa and Clarke are protagonists that fall in love despite the animosity between their people. Unfortunately, The 100 became another example of the bury your gays trope when Lexa was shot and killed immediately after finally sharing an emotional and passionate evening with Clarke. This sparked a loud fan response of frustration and betrayal.
